WHAT DOES GEMELLI-ART MEANS?

ART is the acronym for Advanced Radiation Therapy.

Radiotherapy at Gemelli ART is not only about treating the disease in the most effective way, but also to take care the person affected by the cancer disease. The patient is the center of a multidisciplinary approach that involves radiation oncologists, oncologists, radiologists, nuclear physicians, surgeons, psychologists and other medical specialists in order to address in the most appropriate way any specific medical case.

 

HOW CAN I SPEND MY TIME IN THE WAITING ROOM?

In the waiting room you can access a tablet with games to play and informative contents about our services.

 

HOW DO I REQUEST A FOLLOW-UP EXAMINATION?

Is it possible to do that at the waiting room counter. You’ll need the medical prescriptions sheet that the doctor gave you. This way you can book your next examination without any “Appointment request letter”. You can book you also by phone at 06.30154434, Monday to Friday, from 5:30 to 7:30 PM

 

DO I NEED THE APPOINTMENT REQUEST LETTER WHEN I SHOW UP FOR AN EXAMINATION?

Yes, make sure to have a “Radiotherapy examination request letter” with you.

 

HOW DO I RESCHEDULE MY RADIOTHERAPY?

If you need to shift the time slot for your treatment, please speak to technician of the machine which performs the treatment. We’ll try to meet your needs, coherently with the existing appointments and the needs of the service.

Radiotherapy is a local therapeutic treatment which, by targeting the tumour area, preserves the healthy tissues. CAN I HAVE PSYCHOLOGICAL SUPPORT?

The patient and his family members are entitled to psychological support. In our team, we have two psycologists specialized in supporting oncological patients. They have their room right in the waiting room. To make a reservation for a consult, please ask to the Patients Admission Desk.

 

DOCTOR PRESCRIBED ME A SKIN CREAM FOR THE TREATMENT. WHO CAN I ASK FOR EXPLANATIONS ON HOW AND WHEN TO APPLY IT?

If you are in doubt on how and when to apply the creams prescribed during the treatment, please ask to the Operations Center’s nurse.

 

DOES RADIOTHERAPY MAKE ME RADIOACTIVE? DO I HAVE TO STAY AWAY FROM MY CHILDREN AND / OR GRANDCHILDREN?

Generally speaking, external beam radiotherapy DOES NOT make the patient radioactive. A different thing is the metabolic radiotherapy and brachytherapy treatment, in which the patient usually remains in hospital in a special room that protects other people from radiation.

 

I FEEL ALWAYS TIRED, WHAT CAN I DO?

Fatigue is a very common symptom in people being treated for cancer. Ask for advice about it to the doctor who carries out the visit during treatment.
